Castles, beaches and fjords

SATURDay 1 - Arrival in Copenhagen. There are two hotels to choose from, either a city centre hotel,(we include the city center hotel but if you prefer other option let us know) or a hotel in a quiet suburb Gentofte, 8 Kilometres/5 miles from the centre. In Copenhagen do have a stroll on Strøget, the long pedestrian street. Here you will find the old medieval part of Copenhagen, as well as many excellent restaurants.
Hotel Copenhagen Strand or similar. (Gentofte Hotel if you opt to stay outside city center and save $80 p.p. double/single)

SUNDay 2 - 48 km/30 miles.   Ahead of you on the first day of bicycling lies a pleasant ride out of Copenhagen (on bicycle paths) towards Helsingør. Enjoy Dyrehaven, the royal hunting ground on your left, and the view of the sea - Sweden towering in the distance - on your right. You will be riding near the coast all day. At Rungsted you can visit the home of the famous Danish author Karen Blixen (Isak Dinesen). Louisiana, the museum in Humlebæk, enjoying world acclaim for its exhibitions of modern art as well as for its picturesque location, is definitely worth a stop. The night is spent in Helsingør.
Overnight at Hotel Marienlyst or similar.

MONDay 3 - 34 km/21 miles.   A day of castles! When in Helsingør visit Hamlet's castle Kronborg. After that, a lovely ride down to Fredensborg - Lots of time on your hands, fresh air and beautiful countryside all around you. Continue to Hillerød. The night is spent at a modern hotel near the famous castle Frederiksborg Castle.
Overnight at Hotel Hillerød or similar.

TUESDay 4 - 47 km/30 miles.   If you have saved the visit of Frederiksborg Castle until today, you will have enough time to explore the unique interior of the castle, located in the middle of a lake, surrounded by baroque gardens. Then continue through the forest and fields on a paved cycle route to Ramløse and the lake Arresø. On the way to Hundested there is an excellent opportunity for a swim at the Northern Sealand beaches. Spend the night in Hundested.
Overnight at Hotel Hundested Kro or similar.

WEDNESDay 5 - 31 km/20 miles.   Go through the idyllic fishing hamlet Lynæs to the small ferryboat at Sølager. Once on the other side of the fiord continue through the forest Nordskoven, famous for its old oak trees. Coming out of the forest you will see the castle Jægerspris Slot. The night will be spent in the small village Skuldelev.
Overnight at Hotel Skuldelev Kro or similar.

THURSDay 6 - 51 km/32 miles.   Visit the beautifully restored manor house Selsø Slot. Continue through forest land and undulating fields to the open-air museum Lejre where you can experience daily life from Iron-Age to Viking-Age. On to Roskilde, the former Danish capital. In the large cathedral the kings and queens of Denmark are buried. The Vikings lived at Roskilde and their ships can still be seen here. You will spend the night in the centre of Roskilde.
Overnight at Hotel Prindsen or similar.

FRIDay 7 - 46 km/29 miles.   Back to Copenhagen (or Gentofte). Through picturesque villages to the beaches south of the capital. A path takes you along the coast away from traffic, all the way into the centre of Copenhagen.
Hotel Copenhagen Strand or similar. (Gentofte Hotel outside city center)

SATURDay 8 - Departure from Copenhagen/Gentofte after breakfast.

Tour starts from: Copenhagen/Gentofte
Length of Tour: 256 km/160 miles
Nights: 7
Board: Breakfast daily.
Bicycles: All terrain bikes (ATB) with 8 gears and a basket. Essential tools and repair outfit.
Included in tour price: 7 overnights stay. Bicycle and very detailed route description with maps. Luggage transport. Ferry ticket Sølager-Kulhuse.
