Iceland Grand Circle 2010, 12 days/11 nights

Type of car recommended: Nr. 2 (Compact) and higher.

Day: 1 Arrival at Keflavik Airport. Transfer on own from Keflavík airport to accommodation in Reykjavík. Recommend that you take scheduled Flybus to city center/hotel.

Day 2: Drive to Pingvellir National Park, then continue to the famous Geysir hot-spring area and the Gullfoss waterfall.
Optional:
- River rafting in the Geysir area
- ATV-quad biking in Haukadalur

Day 3: Travel along the south shore, viewing Skogafoss waterfall, Myrdalsjökull glacier, Vík, and Dyrholaey*. *Please note that Dyrholaey is closed during nesting season, May 15 til June 23rd.
- Snow scooter tour on Myrdalsjökull glacier
- Boat tour from Vík
- Skogar folk museum

Day 4: Visit the beautiful Skaftafell National Park and the glacial lagoon Jökulsarlon. Onwards to the Höfn/Djupivogur area.
Optional:
- Boat tour on Jökulsarlon Glacial Lagoon
- Glacier hike in Skaftafell area

Day 5: Drive along the rugged varied coastline of the East Fjords with their towering mountains and charming fishing villages. On the way there is an option of taking a boat tour to Papey island where thousands of puffins nest in summer or visit the famous stone collection of Petra at Stödvarfjördur.
Optional:
- Boat tour to Papey island.
- Petra's stone collection

Day 6: Across the Mödrudalsöræfi highlands to Dettifoss, the mightiest waterfall in Europe, to Asbyrgi in Jökulsargljufur National Park and on to Husavik.
Optional:
- Whale watching from Husavik

Day 7: Explore the highlights of Lake Myvatn area and the surrounding area highlights such as Dimmuborgir, the pseudocraters at Skutustadir, the colourful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard and Krafla volcano. Onwards to the town of Akureyri stoping on the way to admire Godafoss waterfall.

Day 8: Spend the day exploring Akureyri, the capital of the North and the surrounding area.
Optional:
- Ferry to Hrisey island

Day 9: Travel to the horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjördur fjord and then continue to the shores of Hunafloi bay, an area full of history.
Optional:
- River rafting in Skagafjördur
- Horse riding in Skagafjördur

Day 10: Explore Dalir, the region of Eric the Red, before continuing to Snæfellsnes peninsula with its countless wonders such as the rocky beach of Djupalonssandur and Arnarstapi sea cliffs, before continuing to the Borgarfjördur area.

Day 11: In Borgarfjördur visit such highlights as Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, Reykholt and the hot spring Deildartunguhver. Continue via Hvalfjördur fjord to Reykjavik. Possibility to visit the Blue Lagoon, then head back to Reykjavik.

- Visit to the Blue Lagoon

Day 12: Departure on own.
