Iceland Circle 2010, 10 days/9 nights

Type of car recommended: Nr. 2 (Compact) and higher

Day 1: Arrival at Keflavik Airport. Transfer on own from Keflavík airport to accommodation in Reykjavík. Recommend that you take scheduled Flybus to city center/hotel.
Optional scheduled airport coach transfer add $50 p.p. round trip
Optional private car/driver transfer add $382 round trip total for 1-4 persons

Day 2: Drive across Hellisheidi to the greenhouse village of Hveragerdi. Continuation to the waterfall Gullfoss and the hot springs at Geysir. Pingvellir, site of the ancient Icelandic
parliament, and through Hvalfjördur or Kaldidalur highland pass (4WD needed) to Borgarfjördur.

Day 3: Drive north through Borgarfjördur, to the shores of Hunafloi bay and the towering mountains and horse-breeding valleys of Skagafjördur. On to Akureyri.
Optional:
- River rafting
- Horse riding in Skagafjördur

Day 4: A morning in Akureyri, the capital of the North. After a stop in the town, onwards to the Lake Myvatn area.

Day 5: Exploring the natural wonders of Lake Myvatn and the surrounding area, including fantastic lava formations. Visit to the volcanic area of Krafla along with the colorful sulfurous slopes of Namaskard pass.

Day 6: Drive north to the fishing port of Husavik and around Tjörnes peninsula. Asbyrgi, a magnificent horseshoe-shaped canyon, and Jökulsargljufur National Park. Proceeding to Dettifoss, Europe's mightiest waterfall, before heading across the highland plateau to Egilsstadir.
Optional:
- Whale watching from Husavik

Day 7: Drive south through the spectacular Eastern fjords, where towering, terraced mountains plunge vertically into the ocean and on to the town of Höfn in Hornafjördur, gateway to the south coast.
Optional:
- Boat tour to Papey Island
- Petra's stone collection

Day 8: Drive to the shimmering icebergs and still, milky waters of Jökulsarlon glacial lagoon before continuing to Skaftafell National Park. On to the picturesque village of Kirkjubæjarklaustur.
Optional:
- Jeep tour to Vatnajökull glacier
- Boat tour on Jökulsarlon
- Ice climbing in Skaftafell area

Day 9: Drive along the spectacular southern coast, a sweeping landscape of sandy desert, rocky shores and rolling farmland sandwiched between snow-capped glaciers, mountains and
the ocean. Return to Reykjavik.

Day 10: Departure on own.
