Winter Express Tour 2008
This trip brings you to the Northern part of Norway above the Arctic Circle. This part of the country will offer you more than you could ever imagine. The lively town of Alta, a vist to the North Cape and tour continues to Karasjok, the Sami Capital of Norwegian Lapland before returning to Alta. In between you may experience the northern light and a bit of the Sámi Culture.

5 days / 4 nights Land Only

Destinations: ALTA - NORTH CAPE - KARASJOK - ALTA
Departure: The program can start in Alta on Mondays and Fridays only.
(Please notice that there will be special departure times for activities at Easter)

Airport of arrival / departure: Alta / Alta
Duration: 5 days, 4 nights
Minimum: 1 person

Activities and cancellation: The activity suppliers may cancel excursions due to
weather conditions and safety of the clients. Excursions will be cancelled if the
temperature is below -30 degrees Celsius. If the supplier offers an alternative activity and the client agrees to join there will be no refund for the cancelled activities.
Transport: The Winter-Express coach, Alta - Honningsvåg - Karasjok - Alta Igloo Hotel - Alta Airport, the supplier is FFR www.ffr.no.
Clothing: Warm and leisure clothing. Wool underwear, warm sweater of fleece, good and warm shoes, hat and gloves, scarf, pants and jacket.

DAY 01: ARRIVAL ALTA (Monday/Friday)
Arrival Alta Airport. (Air on own or call us for a quote on SAS)
Transfer to Rica Hotel Alta by shuttle bus must be booked in advance (see the pricelist for the additional price), 5 minutes transport.
Check in at Rice Hotel Alta. The hotel has 155 rooms and is centrally located in Alta near the shopping area and restaurants. www.rica.no.
Rest of day free to explore Alta and have dinner at local restaurant on own.
Overnight at RICA Hotel Alta.

DAY 02: ALTA - HONNINGSVÅG (Tuesday/Saturday)
Breakfast at the hotel. Morning free to shop or take optional tour below.

Optional activity in the morning: Dog Sled Safari in the land of the Elk
Time: 11:00am - 1:30pm (see the price list below)

2:30pm,  Winter-Express coach Alta - Honningsvåg
Coach from Rica Hotel Alta (via Alta Airport) to Rica Hotel in
Honningsvåg. No change of bus. One short stop in Olderfjord, situated halfway between Alta and Honningsvåg.
6:00pm, arrival Honningsvåg. Check in at Rica Hotel Honningsvåg.
In the evening we recommend a visit the local brewery” Bryggeriet”, 1 minute walking distance from your hotel.
Overnight at RICA Hotel Honningsvåg.

DAY 03: NORTH CAPE - KARASJOK (Wednesday/Sunday)
Breakfast in the hotel restaurant.

Optional activity in the morning: guided tour in the fishing village with a
kick sled. ( see the pricelist below) Time: 10:00am - 11:30am.

North Cape Excursion
Check out from the hotel and leave the luggage in the hotel luggage room
11:45am, leave the hotel and board the North Cape coach.
12:00pm, departure from Honningsvåg for the North Cape Excursion
12:40pm, arrival North Cape. Enjoy the view!
The North Cape Hall offers a film presenting North Cape’s 4 seasons,
a souvenir shop and the coffee house is open serving snacks and warm
drinks. Champagne and certificate is included, only for adults.
2:00pm, return to Honningsvåg
3:00pm, arrival Rica Hotel in Honningsvåg, get your luggage.

With reservation, due to weather conditions the North Cape convoy may be cancelled.

Karasjok - the Sami village
3:20pm, departure from Honningsvåg to Karasjok. One stop in Olderfjord.
6:30pm, arrival Karasjok. Check in at Rica Hotel Karasjok.
The beautiful village of Karasjok is the Sami Capital of Norwegian Lapland.
In this village, where 90 % of the 3000 inhabitants are Sami, we find the
Sami Parliament and the National Museum for Sami Culture.
Karasjok is also the land of the Northern Lights, with the best opportunities
to see the Northern Lights, as most of the winter days here are cold and
clear. Colorful, mystic and dancing, the northern lights - Aurora Borealis -
is the origin of many myths. Rica Hotel Karasjok offers Northern Lights
wake-up calls should the Northern Lights appear during the night.
6:30pm - 10:00pm dinner in Storgammen restaurant - a Sami restaurant where they serve a traditional Sami meal.

Optional activity: Hunting for the Northern Light, transfer by snowmobile or by bus. As you wait for a possible Northern Light "show" you will be served warm drinks in a lavvu. ( see the pricelist below) Time: 8:00pm - 10:00pm.

Overnight at RICA Hotel Karasjok.

DAY 04: KARASJOK - ALTA (Thursday/Monday)
Breakfast in the hotel restaurant.
10:00am-12.30pm, you visit the Sami Cultural Park – Sápmi Park.
Here you will experience a genuine and unique presentation of the
Sami history, culture and mythology. Hot drinks served in a lavvo.
You should not miss it during your stay in Karasjok.

Optional activity: Guided tour of the Sam Parliament.

1:00pm, a 5 minute walk from your hotel.

3:00pm, departure with the Winter-Express coach from Karasjok to Alta.
4:30pm, the bus will stop in Kautokeino, a Sami village. There we will visit
Juhl’s Silver Gallery.
8:00pm, arrival Alta Igloo Hotel.
Check in and guided tour of the ice hotel! It is also possible just to visit the ice hotel and return to Alta for overnight stay at Rica Hotel Alta - see below rate options. 8:30pm dinner in the Laksestua, a restaurant next to Alta Igloo Hotel.
Dinner and accommodation at Alta Igloo Hotel or
alternatively overnight at RICA Hotel Alta with dinner on own.

DAY 05: DEPARTURE ALTA (Friday/Tuesday)
Breakfast at the hotel. (sauna and below option is ONLY available with overnight stay at Igloo Hotel)
We recommend you try the sauna in the morning after a night in the icehotel.

Optional: 10:00am — 1:00pm Snowmobile Safari from Alta Igloo Hotel to the Finnmark plains. (see the pricelist below)

1:15pm, (or 1:30 from RICA Hotel Alta) departure with the Winter-Express coach to the airport.

Return to your homeward destination on your own.

by foot.

4. Hunting for Northern Light in Karasjok.
2 hour tour looking for Northern Light, sightings are not guaranteed, incl. hot drinks.
