Hardangerfjord in a Nutshell
Bergen | Voss | Ulvik | Eidfjord | Fjord Cruise | Norheimsund | Bergen
*Daily Departures May 01 - September 29
The second-longest fjord in Norway and the fourth longest in the world, the Hardangerfjord is just as impressive as its sister fjord, the Sognefjord, in its complexity: plentiful blooming orchards, pristine waterfalls, and the infamous Trolltunga (the Troll’s Tongue) overlook are just some of its jaw-dropping features. The towering mountainscapes of the Hardangerfjord’s byways and side channels sing a song of echoing resonance, calling to travel nomads everywhere, and cozy scenic fjord towns perch near the waters.
Day 01: Bergen - Voss - Ulvik - Eidfjord
All aboard: the morning train that begins your Hardangerfjord in a Nutshell journey leaves today from Bergen Central Station, winding its way to the picturesque resort town of Voss. Hop on the local bus to Ulvik, where you’ll encounter an incredible sight: the image of the Hardangerfjord’s mountains mirrored in the glassy waters of the Osafjord. This small offshoot of the Hardangerfjord connects with the nearby scenic Eidfjord, on which you’ll take a 30-minute cruise to the Ostangvegen region.
Embark on an outing of the Eidfjord region, enjoying the spectacular scenery and exploring some of the area’s local sights—including a tour to Vøringsfossen, Norway’s largest waterfall, and a visit to the Hardangervidda Nature Center. Tonight’s outstanding accommodations are at the beautiful Vøringsfoss Hotel, positioned between 3 peaks of the Eidfjord.
Day 02: Eidfjord - Hardangerfjord - Norheimsund - Bergen
A delicious Scandinavian breakfast wakes you this morning before you discover more of the majestic fjord landscape along the Eidfjord on your own. In the mid-afternoon, experience a face-to-face, 3-hour encounter with towering mountains, thundering waterfalls, Caribbean-blue waters, and idyllic orchards on a scenic Hardangerfjord cruise.
Once you reach the town of Norheimsund, a beautiful region that houses the Steinsdalsfossen Waterfall, board the bus to reach the end of your journey—Bergen. Keep your nose pressed to the glass, though: you’re traveling through some of the world’s most astonishing localities toward the gateway to the fjords!
