Breakfast at your hotel. The imperial palaces and museums of St. Petersburg enjoy worldwide fame, while the Neva River—the river on which the city sits—and its many canals have deservedly given the city the title ‘The Venice of the North’.

This morning you’ll take a panoramic city tour of St. Petersburg to get acquainted with all the splendors of the city: the Peter-Paul Fortress, the Winter Palace, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, the Church of the Bleeding Savior, the Nevsky Convent, and much more. The city tour will end at the hotel, with the rest of the day at leisure to explore St. Petersburg’s many wonders on your own.

Day 03: St. Petersburg

Breakfast at your hotel. Today you’ll meet your guide for a full-day excursion to sites like Peterhof—an uncontested masterpiece of the time of Peter the Great—with the impressive Grand Palace, Grand Cascade, and Walter Avenue with its wonderful park. The world-famous palace is an outstanding landmark of Russian culture from the 18th century, and was conceived as the official royal summer residence: 176 fountains, four cascades, majestic palaces, gilded statues of ancient gods and heroes, and more grace the estate. At noon we’ll have lunch together (included).

In the afternoon we’ll return to St. Petersburg by hydrofoil, where you’ll visit the magnificent buildings of the State Hermitage Museum. Right on the River Neva, these six architectural gems are headed by the Winter Palace, the residence of the Russian Tsars built in the mid-17th century. Over nearly three centuries, this amazing museum has collected over 3,000,000 works of art. Evening free on own.
