Day 01: Arrive St. Petersburg

Today you arrive in St. Petersburg and meet our local representative at St. Petersburg Pulkovo Airport before transferring together to your five star hotel, superbly situated on the Nevsky Prospekt—the main artery of the city. Please see the welcome letter provided to you upon check-in at your hotel for details about the meeting point and time with your tour escort.

St. Petersburg, a city founded in 1703 by Tsar Peter the Great, is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The city was virtually unharmed after the 1930-50s Stalinist reconstruction, and its downtown dazzles the eye of the visitor with splendid palaces, stylish monuments, straight avenues, beautiful bridges, and other attractions.

The evening is at leisure. Your tour escort will assist with recommendations and reservations for optional evening arrangements for the next five nights.

Day 05: Moscow

Breakfast is at your hotel. This morning you’ll enjoy a full-day, privately guided sightseeing tour of Moscow—where you’ll experience the unique beauty of Russia’s ancient churches and cathedrals, some of them dating as far back as the 15th century, many of them having been restored or even built anew lately. Continue the city tour by visiting beautiful theatres and palaces; modern business complexes and hotels; and buildings of late Soviet architecture such as Moscow State University and the Central Stadium in Luzhniki, which hosted the 1980 Olympic Games.

Moscow, with over 10 million inhabitants, is vast and at times chaotic. You’ll visit the historical center of the city, which includes the Red Square, Sofiiskaya Embankment, St. Sophia Cathedral, and the panorama of the Kremlin walls. You’ll also see the modern part of the city which includes the Lenin (Vorobievy) Hills–the highest place in Moscow, providing a beautiful view of the city. Next is Poklonnaya Hill, where there is a monument commemorating defenders of the city during World War II.

You’ll experience one of Moscow’s beautiful Metro stations before we take a short break for lunch (not included), and then continue on our tour of the city.

You’ll be returned to your hotel at the end of the city tour, and the rest of the afternoon and evening are free to explore this amazing city in the heart of imperial Russia.

Day 06: Moscow

Breakfast at hotel. This morning we’ll enjoy a half-day, privately-guided city tour of Moscow, during which you’ll walk through the Kremlin grounds and visit the Armoury Chamber, viewing its famous collection of Faberge eggs, jewels, and royal thrones.

The word Kremlin (kreml) means a fortress or walled town; Moscow’s is the biggest and most famous. The earliest ramparts were of earth and wood, but successive rulers raised and strengthened the defenses after every attack. The present brick walls date from the 1490s, though they have been frequently restored.

The tour ends at your hotel. Enjoy a final afternoon and evening at leisure, exploring Moscow on your own or relaxing in your hotel before you head home the following day.
