Suggestions for Activities and Sights
Please ask us for more information about the tours and excursions listed below.
Oslo – Oslo Food Tour
In the late morning you have the option to meet back at your hotel and begin an Oslo Food Tour, a glimpse into the genuine cuisine of Oslo through its harbor, vibrant riverside, and market halls. The tour explores the cultural heart of Norway’s capital, and you’ll traverse the city for four hours—discovering local food gems and taking in the sights on foot. The tour ends mid-afternoon.
Flåm – Biking the Rallarvegen Road
Hop on the scenic Flåm Railway to Myrdal station to begin an incredible biking tour of Norway: follow the Rallarvegen navigational road all the way from Myrdal station back to your hotel in Flåm! You’ll pick up your bikes at Myrdal station, following the road that leads into the Norwegian countryside. Rallarvegen was used as a transportation method during the construction of the Bergensbanen (Bergen Line, or Bergen Railway), and you’ll experience a fascinating array of wildlife and locals as you make your way through the Myrdal bends and fjordscape. If you have time, stop at the local geitost (goat’s cheese) farm, Rallarrosa Stølsysteri—say hello to the goats, and sample some of the delicious mountain cheeses. Arrive back in Flåm in the early afternoon.
Flåm – Heritage Taste Fjordsafari
Walk the few feet from your hotel to Flåm’s docks, where you’ll meet the sea crew that will take you on a 3-hour Heritage Taste Fjordsafari—an unparalleled view of the world-famous Nærøyfjord and Aurlandsfjord region. The Nærøyfjord’s beautiful waterways and dizzying heights, along with its neighboring Aurlandsfjord, are listed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. You’ll be given a warm thermo suit, hat, mittens, and ski goggles—the wind over the fjord waters can get cold!—and set off for Undredal, a tiny picturesque village of 65 people and over 500 goats squeezed into a fold of the fjord. If you bring a camera, it is recommended that you have it on a camera strap as the boat travels at high speeds over the waters of the fjord.
In Undredal, transfer from the dock directly to the tasting room of the now world-famous Norwegian brown (brunost) cheese, various white cheeses, and local sausages. Depart from Undredal and make your way back to Flåm, continuing to experience the magnificent UNESCO-rated fjordscape around you.
Bergen – Fløien Funicular and Folkerestaurant
Walk 10 minutes from your hotel to Bergen’s famous Fløibanen: this all-glass funicular will take you to the top of Mt. Fløien while delighting you with breathtaking views of the city’s interplay between nature and architecture. Enjoy an optional dinner at the famous Fløien Folkerestaurant, situated at the very top of the mountain with a spectacular range of panoramic windows that make the most of the sprawling view.
Bergen – Bergen City Walking Tour
Head out on a city walking tour of Bergen with a local guide! The tour will take you through both Bergen’s most famous sights and the lesser-known, including Bryggen Harbor, the Bergen Fortress area, the train station, and some of Bergen’s most historic landmarks. The guide is very knowledgeable about the history of each place you visit—from Bergen’s founding in 1070 through the Middle Ages and WWII to the present—and there will be ample time for questions.
