Intercontinental Moscow Tverskaya Hotel

Day 09: Moscow

Breakfast at hotel. Begin a full-day, privately guided city tour of Moscow this morning. You’ll start with seeing some of the city’s many ancient churches and cathedrals, some of them dating as far back as the 15th century, many of them having been restored or even built anew lately: beautiful theatres and palaces; modern business complexes and hotels; buildings of late Soviet architecture such as the Moscow State University and the Central Stadium in Luzhniki, which hosted the 1980 Olympic Games.

Moscow, with over 10 million inhabitants, is vast and at times chaotic. You’ll visit the historical center of the city, which includes the Red Square, Sofiiskaya Embankment, St. Sophia Cathedral, and the panorama of the Kremlin walls. You’ll also see the modern part of the city which includes the Lenin (Vorobievy) Hills–the highest place in Moscow, providing a beautiful view of the city. Next is Poklonnaya Hill, where there is a monument commemorating defenders of the city during World War II.

You’ll experience one of Moscow’s beautiful Metro stations before we take a short break for lunch (not included), and then continue on our tour of the city.

You’ll be returned to your hotel at the end of the city tour, and the rest of the afternoon and evening are free to explore this amazing city in the heart of imperial Russia. There is an optional excursion to see the national Russian dance show, “Kostroma”, tonight. Dinner is on your own.

Intercontinental Moscow Tverskaya Hotel

NOTE: The Russian national dance show, “Kostroma”, combines the talents of 50 master dancers and actors, 600 unique costumes, 300 props, and 8 set changes to reflect the historical milestones of the hundreds of ethnical people that make up Rus—those of the Far North, the southern steppes, the mountains of the Caucasus, central Russia, and more. Witness the dazzling movement through history from the beginning of Rus to the tsar’s Russia, the USSR, and beyond to modern-day Russia. Please note that this day tour requires a minimum of 6 persons to depart.

Day 10: Moscow

Breakfast at hotel. This morning we’ll enjoy a half-day, privately-guided city tour of Moscow during which you will enjoy a privately guided tour of Kremlin Territory with Armoury Chamber. During this tour you’ll walk through the Kremlin grounds and visit the Armoury Chamber with its famous collection of Faberge eggs, jewels and royal thrones.

The word Kremlin (kreml) means a fortress or walled town; Moscow’s is the biggest and most famous. The earliest ramparts were of earth and wood, but successive rulers raised and strengthened the defenses after every attack. The present brick walls date from the 1490s, though they have been frequently restored.

We’ll end our tour of Moscow’s Kremlin at the hotel. The rest of the afternoon and evening are at leisure. Dinner is on your own tonight, with the option to enjoy a river cruise on the Moskva River.

Intercontinental Moscow Tverskaya Hotel

NOTE: The Radisson Royal Flotilla yachts are state-of-the-art river yachts and restaurants meant for excursion and entertainment cruises along the Moskva River for citizens and visitors of Moscow.
