Day 03: Oslo – Myrdal – Flåm Railway – Fjord Cruise – Balestrand
After breakfast early this morning leave Oslo Station aboard the Bergen Line railway, taking in the incredible mountainscapes around you as you journey to Myrdal and embark on the world-famous Flåm Railway. Descend nearly 2,900 feet in an hour, a branch of the Sognefjord and its surrounding mountains—as well as fantastic wildlife—all around you.
You arrive in the charming fjordside town of Flåm, located at the tip of the Aurlandsfjord. Waterfalls cascade down the side of the mountains, colorful cottages and farms dot the hillside, and snow lines the roof of the world above—even in summertime! From here you’ll catch an express boat directly from the pier, bisecting the Sognefjord on your way to historic Balestrand.
Accommodations tonight are at ‘the jewel of the Sognefjord’, the oldest fjord hotel in Norway—where you’ll enjoy dinner and overnight accommodations in this Swiss-style gem.
Day 04: Balestrand – Geiranger
This morning you’ll enjoy another filling Scandinavian breakfast at your hotel before picking up your rental car for the drive to Geiranger.
Drive north through various beautiful fjord regions like Fjærland and Skei, including an optional detour to Olden to visit the world-famous Briksdal Glacier. Here, a journey can be made in open cars to the foot of the glacier. Continue on past Loen, Stryn, and picturesque Hellesylt, and arrive in Geiranger—a magnificent town at the narrow end of the Geirangerfjord.
Tonight your accommodations and dinner are at a charming four star hotel with a stunning view of the fjord.

Day 05: Geiranger
After a hearty breakfast, you’ll have a free day to roam Geiranger. Explore this unique and charming Scandinavian fjordside village, plenty of hiking trails and breathtaking views included. Make the trek up to the nearby Dalsnibba Mountain Plateau (not included) for an incredible fjord overlook! Another exciting optional self-drive excursion in this area is to take the Eagle’s Road out of Geiranger toward the famous Trollstigen stretch of road, located on the way to Åndalsnes. The road is open mid-June through late September, and there is a café that caters to visitors along the way.
Dinner and overnight at your hotel tonight.
Day 06: Geiranger – Balestrand – Sognefjord Cruise – Bergen
Enjoy another typical Scandinavian buffet breakfast at your hotel before departing the stunning Geiranger region early this morning.
Drive from Geiranger back to Balestrand on your own, dropping off your rental car upon arrival, and then embark from Balestrand via express boat on an incredible 5-hour cruise through the waters of the Sognefjord. Caribbean-blue waves, magnificent rushing waterfalls, and tranquil villages slide by the boat as you pass through the core of the world’s longest open fjord to reach Bergen—the ‘gateway to the fjords’.
Arrive in Bergen late in the evening and check into your three star, city-central hotel, located within walking distance of Bryggen Harbor.
Thon Hotel Rosenkrantz (158 miles)
Day 07: Bergen
After breakfast at your hotel, today is entirely free to explore Bergen independently. The city holds a surprising amount of fascinating historical and modern amusements, as well as traditional and modern eateries. Take the day to visit local museums, colorful fish markets, and admire the city’s architecture on your own (not included). We recommend visits to Bryggen Harbor, the 14th-century structures still intact and in use, and a trip by funicular ride (not included) to the top of Mount Fløien, which hosts both the traditional Fløien Folkerestaurant and a spectacular view of Bergen’s horizon.
Return to your hotel tonight.
