Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Reykjavik

Upon arrival in Reykjavik, optional Flybus or private car/driver transfer to Reykjavik City. Check in at your four star hotel. Afternoon, evening, and dinner are free on your own to explore Reykjavik.

Hotel Storm/Reykjavik Lights/Hotel Skuggi

Day 02: Reykjavik - Westman Islands - Heimaey - Stórhöfði Puffin Colony Tour - Eldheimar Museum

Breakfast is at your hotel this morning. The first stop today will be made at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, where you can walk behind the waterfall.

Travel along the farmlands of the south coast to Landeyjahofn harbor. After arriving at the Bakkafjara pier, take a 30-minute ferry ride to the Westman Islands. The destination is Heimaey Island, the largest of the Westman Islands and the only inhabited one.

Visit the island’s Stórhöfði Point with fantastic views over the area. From mid-May through the beginning of August, it’s also possible to see puffins here! Take a walk up to the crater of a volcano that erupted only four decades ago. Visit Eldheimar Museum and explore the flora growing in the new lava field. The rest of the afternoon is at leisure to explore the island on your own.

Overnight in the Westman Islands. Dinner is on your own tonight.

Hotel Vestmannaeyjar

Day 03: Westman Islands - Skógarfoss Waterfall - Skógar Folk Museum - Reynisfjara Beach - Vik

After breakfast this morning, take the 30-minute ferry back from the Westman Island archipelago to the south shore of Iceland and travel further along the south coast. Pass by numerous glacial rivers en route to Skógarfoss Waterfall.

Continue on from Skógarfoss to the black sands of Reynisfjara beach. Here you can witness the powerful waves and amazing basalt column features carved by the power of the sea.

Dinner (included) and overnight is in the Vik area for the next two nights.

Icelandair Hotel Vík

Day 04: Vik - Kirkjubæjarklaustur - Skaftafell National Park - Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon

After breakfast today, visit within the Vatnajökull National Park region and travel across Eldhraun—the largest mass of lava ever to flow on the face of the Earth—before we reach Kirkjubæjarklaustur, a small town and former site of a 12th-century Catholic convent.

From here, we’ll travel to Skaftafell National Park, an outstanding area of natural beauty, and skirt the borders of the park until we reach Jökulsárlón Glacial Lagoon. Here, huge icebergs float and grind together in the still, deep waters of the lagoon, and Vatnajökull Glacier creates a magnificent backdrop. You’ll get to take a short boat tour of the lagoon while here.

We travel back to the Vik area, where dinner (included) and a restful overnight await.

Icelandair Hotel Vík

Day 05: Lava Centre - Gullfoss Waterfall - Geysir Hot Springs - Thingvellir National Park - Reykjavik

Today after breakfast we begin with a visit to the Lava Center, an interactive, high-tech exhibition about volcanic activity, earthquakes and the creation of Iceland over millions of years. Afterward, we head for the Geysir hot spring area to see the famous great Geysir as well as Strokkur, a hot spring that spouts every few minutes. Travel onwards to Gullfoss, one of Iceland’s most impressive waterfalls.

The next stop is Thingvellir National Park, where the Viking-age parliament met for centuries on the shores of Iceland’s largest lake. This is also where you can see the meeting point where the European and North American tectonic plates meet. After some time to explore Thingvellir, head back to Reykjavik for overnight.

Overnight in Reykjavik. Your final dinner in Iceland is on your own tonight.

Hotel Storm/Reykjavik Lights/Hotel Skuggi
