Day 02: Oslo – Lofthus in Hardangerfjord

After your first buffet breakfast in Scandinavia this morning, check out of your hotel and board a private coach. Today we drive past Hønefoss, Nesbyen, and along the picturesque Halling Valley to the tourist resort town of Geilo. In Geilo, we take time to enjoy a delicious lunch at the beautiful old Dr. Holms Hotel (included).

Afterward, we continue across the scenic Hardanger Mountain Plateau to the idyllic Hardangerfjord where we arrive at Lofthus, one of the most beautiful points of the fjord. Dinner and accommodation tonight is in a picturesque fjord view room (included) at a local four star hotel on the fjord.

Hotel Ullensvang

NOTE: The May 30th, June 13th, 20th, and 27th departures will not be accommodated in rooms with a fjord view; these departures are confirmed with mountain view rooms.

Day 03: Lofthus – Bergen

After breakfast we’ll depart Lofthus and travel to back along the fjord until we reach Brimnes; here you’ll cross the splendid Hardangerfjord by travelling across the newly opened Hardanger Bridge. Drive along the Hardangerfjord to Bergen, the old Hanseatic capital of western Norway and the gateway to the fjords.

Tonight you’ll stay at a newly renovated four star hotel located in the city center by Bryggen Harbor. In the afternoon, a local English-speaking guide will take you on a 2-hour panoramic Bergen city tour: you’ll discover St. Mary’s Church, the exterior of Haakon’s Hall, colorful fish markets, and the UNESCO-listed Bryggen Harbor area (no entrances).

Tonight you’ll have a free evening to explore the city.

Radisson BLU Royal

Day 04: Bergen – Flåm Railroad – Loen

You’ll have a delicious buffet breakfast this morning before departing from Bergen to the town of Voss, where snow-clad mountains ring the town. Board the train across the mountain plateau to Myrdal, where you will change trains and board the world-famous Flåm Railroad, the highlight of the day! Experience one of the world’s most spectacular rail journeys as you descend to the quaint fjord village of Flåm.

Enjoy some free time in Flåm before boarding an afternoon ferry, which will carry you on a breathtaking crossing along two branches—the Aurlandsfjord and the Nærøyfjord—of the lovely Sognefjord, the longest and deepest open fjord in the world. Disembark in Gudvangen, continue by coach, and travel through two beautiful regions: Lærdal and Skei.

Arrive in Loen in the late afternoon and check in at a prestigious local hotel, located between the misty peaks and greenery of the Innvikfjorden. Enjoy dinner here and a stay in a fjord view room (included).

Hotel Alexandra

NOTE: The May 30th, June 27th, July 11th & 18th, August 8th & 15th, and September 5th departures will not be accommodated in rooms with a fjord view; these departures are confirmed with mountain view rooms.

Day 05: Loen – Briksdal Glacier (Optional) – Geiranger

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel this morning. Today you’ll have the option to either enjoy the hospitality of your hotel—which includes a luxurious spa and indoor/outdoor heated pool—or join the excursion to explore Briksdal Glacier (pre-book only), a famous and breathtaking blue glacier tongue which is part of the Jostedal Glacier. If you choose to join the Briksdal Glacier tour, you’ll travel with your guide to the very foot of the glacier. From here, you’ll alternate between small motorized ‘troll’ cars and walking through the Norwegian wilderness to the edge of the ice. Free time for lunch (not included) is provided afterward.

Travel back to the main group at your hotel and leave Loen in the late afternoon. We’ll continue through the Norwegian fjords to the famous Dalsnibba observation point—an extraordinary 4,800 feet above sea level—located above the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord. Continue down to Geiranger and stay in a fjord view room (included) at a stunning four star hotel located on the fjord. We’ll spend two nights in the wonderful surroundings of mountains and fjords, and get the most out of this extraordinary part of the world.

Dinner is at your hotel after a special tour of the Mjelva family’s classic car collection, used in the 1920s and 1930s to show guests of the hotel the beauty of the Geirangerfjord.

Hotel Union

NOTE: The optional excursion to Briksdal Glacier must be booked in advance. Passengers who choose not to join the excursion will be picked up at the hotel prior to leaving Loen. Visit to Dalsnibba is subject to climatic conditions, and is not guaranteed.

Day 06: Geiranger

Breakfast at the hotel. This morning we board a ferry and cross the dramatic UNESCO World Heritage Site-listed Geirangerfjord, situated among lush mountains and wild waterfalls. Travel from Geiranger to Hellesylt and be inspired by this beautiful unspoiled landscape.

After disembarkation in Hellesylt, we’ll travel north along Trollstigen or the Troll’s Path, one of the most dramatic and visited areas in Norway. Travel the 11 hairpin turns on this stunning stretch of road that winds its way along roughly 100 km of incredible landscape. Lunch stop en-route (lunch is not included).

We’ll return to our hotel in the late afternoon and enjoy dinner.

Hotel Union

NOTE: Trollstigen Road tour weather permitting; the road is subject to occasional closure due to weather conditions.

Enjoy the stunning view of the atmospheric fjord before continuing on towards Oslo.

Continue via Lom, renowned for its well preserved 12th-century stave church—the oldest in the country. Here, you can join the group on a 2-hour guided walking city tour of Oslo.
