From $1857 Per Person Land Only
Departures April 15 – October 12

This independent tour of southern and fjord Norway allows you to explore the Viking capital of Oslo, the Sognefjord region, and Bergen – gateway to fjord country and home to the historic Bryggen Wharf. Begin the journey in Oslo with a 6-hour ride through the Norwegian countryside on the famous Trans-Norway train to Flåm, with a 1-hour journey on the famous Flåm Railway via Myrdal, and then catch the boat to Balestrand—the jewel of the Sognefjord. Cruise through the heart of the Sognefjord on your way to Bergen, and then head south to Stavanger—famous for its proximity to Pulpit Rock. Stay as many additional nights in each location as you like!

Day 01: Arrive Oslo

Arrive today in Oslo, the Viking capital of Norway and a modern metropolis with beautifully-designed Scandinavian architecture. Transfer to your city-center hotel on your own, check in, and then enjoy the rest of the day—exploring the city and discovering some of Scandinavia’s incredible cuisine.

Also known as the Viking capital of Norway, Oslo is a diverse mixture of modern and ancient. There are so many options for exploration and discovery: the fascinating Viking Ship Museum—which houses Viking ship findings from Gokstad, Oseberg, and Tune—is located here, along with the Vigeland Sculpture Park, Akershus Fortress, and the World War II Resistance Museum.

Overnight at your hotel, and prepare for the next day’s journey into fjord country.

Day 02: Oslo – Myrdal – Flåm (Flåm Railroad) – Balestrand

You’ll leave Oslo Station this morning early aboard the train, taking in the incredible mountainscapes around you as you journey to Myrdal and embark for a spell on the world-famous Flåm Railway. Descend 2,838 feet within the hour, gorgeous views of the surrounding Sognefjord and wildlife at every turn.

Arrive in the enchanting fjord town of Flåm, located at the tip of the Aurlandsfjord. Waterfalls cascade down the side of the mountains, colorful cottages dot the hillside, and snow lines the roof of the world above—even in summertime!

Walk the few feet from the train station to the docks and take the last express boat to Balestrand, cutting straight across the magnificent Sognefjord. A beautiful town right on the banks of the Sognefjord, there’s an amazing amount of history in Balestrand and a lot to explore. Transfer to your hotel, a historic gem overlooking one of the most magnificent bends of the Sognefjord, and enjoy a sprawling smorgasbord dinner—the traditional buffet dinner of Scandinavia.

Arrive in Bergen in the early afternoon and check in to your hotel, located right on the same avenue as the UNESCO-rated Bryggen Harbor. Enjoy the rest of the day to settle in and relax, taking advantage of local optional outings such as exploring the Fløien Funicular and dining at the Fløien Folkerestaurant.
